Best Bets for UFC Fight Night 65 – Scott Jack
- Stipe Miocic wins ITD –120 (5Dimes) vs. Mark Hunt
Mark Hunt (10-9-1) is one tough cookie and the Aussies will be behind him 100% this week. Hunt is 41 years old and he has had a rocky recently. He’s 1-2-1 in his last four fights, including a KO win over Nelson. However, he has been knocked out twice as well.
Hunt has been stopped (3 TKO/KO & 6 Submission Losses) in every one of his losses. Stipe Miocic (12-2) can keep a safe distance with his reach edge (80’’ vs. 72’’). Miocic lands more strikes, is more accurate, has better defense and a better ground game.
- Anthony Perosh –145 (Bet365) vs. Sean O’Connell
The Australian Anthony Perosh (15-8) is 42 years old, but I believe he has enough left in the tank to beat Sean O’Connell (16-6) on the main card. Perosh is 2-1 in the UFC since 2013 with wins over Magalhaes and Filho, plus a decision loss against Bader.
O’Connell doesn’t appear to be a threat in the LHW division. He lost his first two UFC fights against Jimmo and Villante, before finally beating Van Buren. O’Connell is an active striker, but once Perosh puts him on his back his striking isn’t going to matter much.
- Jake Matthews –170 (Bet365) vs. James Vick
Jake Matthews (8-0) is the best UFC prospect from Australia right now and I expect him to pick up his third UFC win by beating the American James Vick (7-0). Vick is already 3-0 in the UFC, but Matthews should have no problem winning this fight if he’s smart.
Matthews has landed 5 takedowns in his two UFC fights, while Vick has been taken down five times in three fights. Matthews has also been the better striker and his defense (1.24 SApM) is insane. I’m surprised we’re getting such a good line on the local kid.
- Robert Whittaker +150 (SportsInteraction) vs. Brad Tavares
Brad Tavares (13-3) is 2-2 in the UFC since 2014 with wins over Larkin and Marquardt, plus losses to Romero and Boetsch. Both of his wins have been by decision. In fact, in eight career UFC wins, Tavares only has one win by stoppage – a KO win back in 2011.
Robert Whittaker (13-4) is coming off a FOTN TKO win over Hester. Tavares isn’t an active enough striker to keep up with Whittaker on the scorecards and Whittaker has 91% TD defense, so I can’t see him getting taken down. I like Whittaker a lot as an underdog.
For my parlay I’m going with Perosh and Matthews +161 at Bet365 for two units.
I’m also betting on Perosh, Matthews, Miocic ITD and Whittaker +1000 at 5Dimes.
