The UFC is on again this weekend although this weekend is a pay-per-view event. The UFC 153 fight card was in jeopardy, as the main event and co-main event were cancelled due to injuries. Some of the promotion’s veterans stepped up and now we have a solid fight card that should provide plenty of excitement. UFC 153 will be hosted at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
UFC 153 Main Card Odds & Best Bets
Anderson Silva (32-4) is stepping up to LHW for the 3rd time in his UFC career to fight Stephan Bonnar (15-7). Bonnar has won his last 3 fights, but obviously fighting Silva is a completely different story. Silva is 2-0 in the LHW division and neither opponent was able to get out of the 1st round. I expect Bonnar to make it out of the 1st round, but Silva is simply too good to lose to Bonnar.
- Glover Teixeira -325 (BetDSI) vs. Fabio Maldonado +295 (Pinnacle)
Glover Teixeira (18-2) hasn’t lost since 2005 and he won his UFC debut against Kingsbury earlier this year. Fabio Maldonado (18-5) is on a 2-fight losing streak and is now 1-2 in the UFC. He recently lost to Kingsbury and Pokrajac by decision. Teixeira has won his fights recently by knockout and submission. I think he could submit Maldonado and you’ll get much better odds betting on that.
- Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira -250 (BetDSI) vs. Dave Herman +250 (Pinnacle)
Antonio Nogueira (33-7-1) has been dealing with consistency issues in the cage recently due to age. Dave Herman (21-4) has been knocked out his last two fights against Struve and Nelson. I think Herman has a great shot at winning this fight and I bet on him. I think Nogueira will struggle in his first fight back since injury and Herman should be able to win the striking battle this weekend.
- Erick Silva -115 (BetDSI) vs. Jon Fitch +116 (Pinnacle)
Erick Silva (14-2) and Jon Fitch (23-4-1) is one of the fights I’m looking forward to this weekend. Silva is 2-1 and his lone loss was a DQ loss for punches to the back of the head. Fitch lost to Hendricks by KO in 12 seconds his last fight, but I expect him to fight a lot better this weekend in Brazil although I don’t think it will be enough to beat the Brazilian in his own country.
- Demian Maia -130 (BetDSI) vs. Rick Story +131 (Pinnacle)
Demian Maia (16-4) has been very inconsistent as well lately, but he’s fresh off a win over Dong Hyun Kim. Rick Story (14-5) won his last fight by decision against Brock Jardine, but he lost his two previous fights before that. This is another fight where I like the underdog due to Story being able great at takedowns and having a slight edge in the striking department.
- Phil Davis -345 (Pinnacle) vs. Wagner Prado +300 (5Dimes)
Phil Davis (9-1) and Wagner Prado (8-0) get to fight again this weekend after the last fight ending in a NC. The fight ended in the 1st round (1:28) last time they fought, so we can’t look at that fight to determine much. Davis has the experience in the cage and I expect his defense to be too much for Prado to beat although it does scare me betting against a Brazilian fighter in Brazil.
