Video Preview and Predictions for UFC 138
A veteran of 18 UFC bouts, Leben’s resume of opponents is impressive. The Crippler’s most recent matchup was a 27 second knockout victory over former Pride Champion Wanderlei Silva. Prior to that bout, he defeated Yoshihiro Akiyama, Aaron Simpson, Alessio Sakara, Jorge Santiago; submitting Akiyama and knocking out Simpson, Sakara and Santiago. On the negative side, Leben has struggled against the upper echelon of UFC Middleweights; falling in defeat to top contenders Michael Bisping and Brian Stann, along with serving as Anderson Silva’s first opponent inside the Octagon suffering a knockout inside the opening minute.
Both Munoz and Leben are incredibly explosive fighters, each possessing knockout power and the desire to finish their opponent. Together they have combined for 6 UFC fight bonuses; Leben has earned fight of the night twice along with three knockout of the night awards while Munoz’s tilt with Kendall Grove at UFC 112 garnered him the FOTN bonus. This matchup will be both historical and exciting, the addition of two more rounds serves to enhance the possibility that these octagon warriors will provide us with an epic confrontation on November 5th, 2011.
The co main event will feature a crowd favourite as England native Brad Pickett will clash with BJJ Black Belt Renan Barao. Pickett will be making his UFC debut following a successful WEC career. Pickett is arguably the most well rounded British fighter in the UFC. With a win, the former Cage Rage British Featherweight champion could earn himself an opportunity to battle for the UFC Bantamweight title.
Renan Barao suffered his loan defeat in his MMA debut and has gone undefeated in 27 fights since. In his first UFC bout, Barao defeated former WEC Featherweight Champion Cole Escovedo. Barao has shown an impress ability to finish opponents, with 12 submission and 6 knockout victories in 26 career wins.
Despite a lack of UFC mainstream exposure, these two combatants have been given the co-main event position which suggest this fight has the potential to steal the show and is most definitely a Fight of the Night candidate.
